Description
What is hand-stretch PE film?
Hand-stretch PE film is a thin, lightweight, highly transparent and highly elastic self-adhesive plastic packaging film, made from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE). Designed for manual handling, without the need for machinery, it is commonly used to wrap pallets, seal goods and protect surfaces, providing water resistance, dust protection and load stabilization.

Hand-stretch PE film production process
Hand-roll PE film (stretch wrap film) primarily uses LLDPE as the basic raw material and is produced through an extrusion or blown-film process. The process includes raw material mixing, high-temperature melt extrusion, die casting and cooling, winding and cutting. The core lies in the use of self-adhesive tackifiers (such as PIB) to ensure strong adhesion, high transparency and tensile strength. The cast-film method is the most common method, ensuring uniform thickness. Core production process steps:

Preparation of raw materials
- Basic material: Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), such as C4, C6, C8 or metallocene PE (MPE).
- Adhesive additive: Typically, PIB (polyisobutylene) or VLDPE is added to improve self-adhesive properties.
- Additives: Stabilizers, antistatic agents, etc., are added to improve the film’s performance.
- Mixing: LLDPE, self-adhesive agents and additives are thoroughly mixed in appropriate proportions using an automatic mixer to ensure uniform melt distribution.

Ép đùn & Đúc
- Melting: The mixed raw materials are heated and melted through an extruder.
- Extrusion: The molten material is extruded through a T-die to form a molten film.
- Casting: The molten film is rapidly cooled and formed on cooling rollers. The film thickness is adjusted by controlling the speed of the casting rollers. This process is suitable for cast film production lines.
- Note: In some cases, the blown film method (blown film) is also used.
- Cooling & Solidification: Rapid cooling with cold-water rollers helps control crystallinity and improve the transparency and tensile strength of the film.
- Winding & Cutting: The finished film is automatically wound by a winding machine.
- The film is cut into different widths and lengths according to specifications (usually divided into hand film and machine film).
- Quality Control & Packaging: Tensile strength, peel strength, puncture resistance, etc., are tested. After passing the tests, the film is packaged.
Characteristics of hand-wrapped stretch film technology
- Thickness requirements: Usually thinner than machine-produced stretch film, lightweight and durable, with good flexibility.
- Self-adhesion: Emphasis on good adhesion between layers.
- Pre-stretching: A better stretch ratio can reduce usage and lower costs.

Here are the detailed characteristics of hand stretch PE film:
- Material and structure: Primarily based on LLDPE, usually manufactured using a cast process, with good toughness, high elasticity, puncture resistance, and high cling.
- Applications: Requires items to be wrapped manually, suitable for small to medium-sized shipments and flexible packaging applications.
- Specifications: Hand stretch film is usually lightweight (each roll typically weighs about 4KG-5KG, including the paper core), with a typical width of 300mm-500mm and a thickness mainly ranging from 15mm-50mm, making it easy to handle.
- Cling: It has single-sided or double-sided self-clinging properties, adhering only between layers of film. It does not adhere directly to the packaged items and leaves no residue after removal.

Functions of hand-wrapped PE stretch film:
- Packaging large quantities of goods into a tight unit, preventing them from tipping over or collapsing during transportation.
- Protection against moisture and dust: High sealing performance protects products from contamination and moisture.
- Cost savings: Lower packaging costs compared to traditional strapping or cardboard boxes.
- Hand-wrapped stretch film, thanks to its light weight and flexibility, is one of the most commonly used packaging consumables in the logistics, warehousing, and packaging industries.

Storage of hand-stretch PE film:
PE film (stretch film/wrapping film) for hand use should be stored in a dry, cool, airtight place away from light. Keep the original packaging intact and store in a dry warehouse at a temperature of [enter the temperature range here], away from heat sources, fire sources and direct sunlight. Stack upright to prevent compression. Protect from dust during use. The storage period should not exceed one year to prevent adhesive aging or moisture absorption. Specific storage instructions are as follows:
Environmental control:
- Keep dry and prevent moisture: PE film is sensitive to moisture and should be stored in a well-ventilated warehouse with a relative humidity of 50% to 75%.
- Suitable temperature: The room temperature should be controlled within the range of15 degrees C – 30 degrees C. Avoid excessively high temperatures (which accelerate aging) or excessively low temperatures (which cause the film to become brittle).
- Light protection: Direct sunlight and strong ultraviolet rays should be avoided, as ultraviolet rays can cause oxidation and damage the PE film.

Storage methods:
- Keep the original packaging: Keep the original packaging (such as kraft paper or plastic wrapping film) as much as possible to prevent dust and impurities from contaminating the film surface.
- Store vertically: PE film rolls should be stored vertically, never horizontally, to avoid uneven stress over time, which can cause dents and “impressions”, affecting subsequent stretching and use.
- Stack properly: Do not stack too high to prevent the rolls at the bottom from being compressed and deformed.
Risk prevention:
- Do not store with chemicals: Contact with oil, acids, alkalis, and other organic solvents is strictly prohibited to avoid corrosion or chemical degradation of the film.
- Keep away from fire: PE film is flammable; smoking and the use of open flames in the warehouse are strictly prohibited.
Usage management:
- Follow the first-in, first-out (FIFO) principle: Follow the FIFO principle to ensure that the film is used within its shelf life (usually within one year) to avoid reduced adhesion.
- If the film is stored outdoors or in a humid environment, the film must be covered with a rainproof tarpaulin.
