ROHS certificate form
RoHS certificate is the English abbreviation of Restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.
What are harmful substances?
RoHS lists a total of six hazardous substances, including: lead Pb, cadmium Cd, mercury Hg, hexavalent chromium Cr6+, polybrominated diphenyl ether PBDE, polybrominated biphenyl PBB.
The RoHS directive restricts the use of the following six types of hazardous substances:
- 1. Mercury (mercury) Examples of its use: thermostats, sensors, switches and relays, light bulbs
- 2. Lead Examples of its use: solder, glass, PVC stabilizer
- 3. Cadmium Examples of use of this substance: switches, springs, connectors, housings and PCBs, contacts, batteries
- 4. Chromium (hexavalent) Example of its use: metal with anti-corrosion coating
- 5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) Examples of its use: Flame retardants, PCBs, connectors, plastic housings
- 6. polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) Examples of its use: flame retardants, PCBs, connectors, plastic housings
Why Launch RoHS
The first time that heavy metals harmful to human health were found in electrical and electronic equipment was in 2000 when cadmium was found in the cables of a batch of game consoles sold in the Netherlands. In fact, solder and inks on packaging boxes are widely used in the manufacture of electrical and electronic products that contain harmful heavy metals such as lead.
When to implement RoHS
The European Union will implement RoHS certification on July 1, 2006. At that time, electrical and electronic products using or containing heavy metals, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) ) and other flame retardants will not be allowed to enter the EU market.
RoHS specifically relates to such products
RoHS targets all electrical and electronic products that may contain the above six hazardous substances during production and raw materials, mainly including: white goods, such as refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, air conditioners air conditioners, vacuum cleaners, water heaters, black goods, such as audio and video products, DVD, CD, TV receivers, IT products, digital products, communication products; power tools, electronic toys, diagnostic and therapeutic electrical equipment
Current progress of RoHS
Some major companies have noticed RoHS and started to take countermeasures, such as SONY digital camera which stated on the box: This product uses lead-free solder; Use lead-free ink.
The state promulgates “Administrative measures to prevent and control pollution caused by electronic information products”, with similar content as RoHS, and establishes “Standards Working Group to prevent and control pollution”. pollution caused by electronics”. Information products” to research and establish pollution control measures for electronic information products in accordance with Vietnamese national conditions. Standard system of prevention and control; carry out research work, develop and revise standards related to the prevention and control of pollution of electronic information products, especially accelerate the development of basic standards such as materials, processes , terminology, test methods and test methods are urgently required by the industry.
Impact of RoHS on the electronics industry
“Administrative measures to prevent and control pollution caused by electronic information products”, electronic information products included in the list of key points to prevent and control pollution of electrical information products The atomizer must not contain lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polymer bromide. Biphenyl ethyl ether and biphenyl brominated polymerization and other toxic and dangerous substances.
For the period prior to 2010 is required that manufacturers of electronic information products take measures to reduce the production of hazardous and hazardous substances, and actively seek alternatives.
At the same time, an organization called “Standards Working Group on Standards for Control and Prevention of Pollution of Electronic Information Products” has also begun preparations for its establishment. Standards research and development work is involved, in particular accelerating the development of urgently needed basic standards for materials, processes, test methods and experimental methods.
RoHS and non-RoHS prices (according to the official statement) usually have a difference of about 15% to 30%, but generally you have to deal with your own product.
RoHS Certification Cycle
RoHS certification cycle: seven working days RoHS standards and testing methods ban hazardous substances (current testing method is the industry default, not required by the EU)
9 test methods
1. Heavy metal – cadmium
- RoHS Limit Value: 100PPM
- Test standard: EN1122
Method:
- a. Place the sample cut into small pieces in a beaker, add concentrated sulfuric acid, heat until the sample is completely dissolved.
- b. Remove the beaker from the heating plate, cool.
- c. Repeat step b, after the reaction solution is no longer bubbling and clear, remove the beaker from the hotplate, let it cool.
- d. The solution was filtered and the filtrate was quantified with ionized water, then detected by an inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer.
2. Heavy metal – lead
- RoHS Limit Value: 1000PPM
- Test Standard: US EPA3050B
Method:
- a. Put the sample in the beaker and add heated HN03
- b. Cool to room temperature, add H2O2 and heat until the reaction is complete
- c. Repeat step b
- d. Cool to room temperature, then add HCI and heat
- e. The coolant was filtered and quantified with deionized water, then detected by an inductively coupled plasma primary ion emission spectrometer.
3. Heavy metal – mercury
- RoHS Limit Value: 1000PPM
- Test Standard: US EPA3052
Method:
- a. Cut the sample into pieces and place in a microwave digestion flask, add nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid
- b. Place the microwave digestion bottle in the microwave to react until completely dissolved
- c. Filter the solution, and measure the filtrate with deionized water. Then detected by an inductive plasma atomic emission spectrometer
4. Heavy metal – hexavalent chromium
- RoHS Limit Value: 1000PPM
- Test Standard: US EPA3060A&7196A
5. Bromine Flame Retardant
- RoHS Limit Value: 1000PPM
- Test Standard: US EPA3540C
Meaning of implementing ROHS
The meaning of the RoHS directive is to cooperate with the WEEE directive to promote environmental protection and energy saving. WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment in English. This Directive was proposed by the European Parliament and the Council, and its implementation by the EU Member States began on 13 August 2005. The main purpose of Quality Certificates is to prevent the generation of waste and The second purpose is to facilitate the recycling, reuse and reproduction of waste, in order to reduce waste of resources.
